Israeli forces detain 51 Palestinians from West Bank

JERUSALEM, Wednesday, March 13, 2019 (WAFA) – Israeli forces detained 51 Palestinians, including minors and a woman, during predawn search detention raids across the West Bank, said the Palestine Prisoner’s Society (PPS).

The PPS confirmed in a press release that Israeli police detained 19 Palestinians, including at least seven teens aged between 14 and 18 years, from inside Al-Aqsa mosque compound, and most of them were released shortly afterwards.

In the northern West Bank district of Jenin, Israeli forces rounded up seven Palestinians.

Elsewhere in the northern West Bank, PPS confirmed that four Palestinians were detained from Qalqilia district and four others from Tulkarem district.

Israeli troops also conducted several raids across the southern West Bank district of Hebron, resulting in the detention of nine Palestinians, including a woman who was detained when she attempted to cross a military checkpoint in Hebron’s Old City.

In the central West Bank district of Jericho, PPS confirmed that two Palestinians were rounded up.

PPS reported that Israeli forces conducted several other raids across the central West Bank district of Ramallah and al-Bireh, resulting in the detention of six Palestinians.

Israeli forces frequently raid Palestinian houses almost on a daily basis across the West Bank on the pretext of searching for “wanted” Palestinians, triggering clashes with residents.

These raids, which take place also in areas under the full control of the Palestinian Authority, are conducted with no need for a search warrant, whenever and wherever the military chooses in keeping with its sweeping arbitrary powers.
