The collapsed playing ground in Silwan due to rain and underground Israeli excavations.
JERUSALEM, Saturday, March 02, 2019 (WAFA) – Rain and Israeli excavations under the homes in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan has caused collapse of earth and cracks in walls that seem to threaten life of residents, according to local sources.
They said the recent heavy rain has brought to the surface the fragility of the foundations of homes and buildings in Silwan, particularly Wadi Hilweh area, which Israel refers to as City of David, located next to the historic wall of the Old City of Jerusalem.
A playing ground collapsed today, the latest in the collapses in the neighborhood that resulted from the rain and the underground Israeli excavations.
Residents, who say they hear the heavy underground drilling all the time, have expressed fear that their homes may one day collapse after they spotted cracks in the walls, the ceiling and in the floor.
They said they went to Israeli courts to stop the excavations under their homes but were told that the excavations were more important because they search for Jewish history on this land.
