RAMALLAH, April 28, 2018 (WAFA) – Israeli army killing of three Palestinians during the Friday protests at Gaza borders (a fourth has later died of his wounds) and wounding of hundreds others was highlighted on the front page of the Saturday issue of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.
The papers gave extensive coverage with photos of the protests and their ramifications. They said Israel used an unknown gas that caused vomiting and severe headaches. Many were taken to hospital for treatment.
They said also the United Nations called for punishing those responsible for the killing of the civilian Palestinian protesters.
The papers also said Israeli warplanes attacked boats at Gaza marina and a location west of Deir al-Balah. No injuries were reported.
They said Israel quelled with force Palestinian protests in the West Bank, injuring many.
Al-Quds quoted Saeb Erekat, secretary general of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) saying the world, and particularly the United Nations and the Security Council, have failed to hold Israel accountable for killing Palestinian protesters, which caused Israel to continue with this act.
It said the Euro-Med Monitor, a rights group, has complained to the International Criminal Court against Israel’s excessive use of force at the Gaza border.
Al-Ayyam said President Mahmoud Abbas is scheduled to meet at his Ramallah headquarters with visiting Japanese prime minister on Tuesday.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said President Abbas welcomed the meeting between the two Korean leaders.
It said Rafah crossing with Egypt is going to open for three days starting Saturday.
The papers also reported on preparations for the upcoming meeting of the Palestinian National Council (PNC), planned for Monday in Ramallah.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah calling on all factions to take part in the meeting and al-Quds quoted Nayef Hawatmeh, head of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, saying his organization has not decided on whether or not it is going to participate in the meeting.
Al-Quds also said the quota for women membership in the PNC could be raise to 30 percent.
It said on another subject, quoting “informed sources,” that Abbas has rejected an American proposal to hold negotiations with Israel and to postpone the issue of Jerusalem until a later date.
