RAMALLAH, November 27, 2017 (WAFA) – The latest developments of intra-Palestinian reconciliation efforts hit the front page headlines in Palestinian Arabic dailies on Monday.
Member of Fatah Central Committee Hussein al-Sheikh was reported in al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida stating Fatah was committed to achieving reconciliation.
He was also reported dismissing Hamas’ claims that the government was fully empowered to assume its responsibilities in Gaza as an “unacceptable maneuver.”
Al-Quds added in this regard the Freedoms Committee called on Fatah and Hamas to halt political arrests.
The dailies also reported that Israeli forces injured a Palestinian young man and caused dozens others to suffocate from tear gas during a raid into al-Arroub refugee camp, north of Hebron.
The man, identified as Mohammad Abu Rayya, 20, was hit by a live round in his foot. While he was being transferred to a hospital for treatment, he was took out of the ambulance and detained by Israeli troops.
Al-Quds added Israeli forces raided the northern West Bank city of Nablus as well as several villages and towns across the West Bank and searched several homes.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam also reported Israeli Jewish settlers set up a number of mobile homes in the northern Jordan Valley.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam reported about 65 Israeli Jewish settlers and three intelligence officers forced their way into East Jerusalem’s flashpoint Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
Al-Quds highlighted the findings of a report drafted by a specialized committee formed by the Islamic Religious Endowment (Waqf) Department to determine whether Israeli police and settlers have tampered with the manuscripts and title deeds of Waqf property as they raided the holy site in July 2017.
It reported the committee announcing the conclusion that “Israeli occupation authorities and police have wreaked havoc into and tampered with the mosque compound.
The dailies reported President Mahmoud Abbas held a meeting with Ecuador’s Foreign Minister María Fernanda Espinosa in Ramallah.
Al-Quds added Foreign Minister Riyad al-Malki and Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah also held separate meetings with Espinosa in Ramallah.
Member of Fatah Central Committee Azzam al-Ahmad was reported in al-Ayyam saying time is required to solve the problems gripping the besieged Gaza Strip and slamming executions carried out by Hamas as “unlawful.”
The dailies spotlighted the meeting of defense ministers of the Saudi-led anti-terrorism alliance of Muslim countries in Riyadh.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam reported in this regard Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince and Defence Minister Mohammad Bin Salman vowed to “pursue terrorists until they are wiped from the face of the earth”.
Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida added President Mahmoud Abbas dispatched Commander of the National Security Forces Maj. Gen. Nidal Abu Dukhan to represent the Palestinian Authority in the meeting.
Abu Dukhan was reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida stating that combating and eradicating terrorism requires doubling efforts to end the Israeli occupation.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said a Palestinian proceeded to manually demolish his home in Um Tuba, southeast of East Jerusalem, because he could not afford the Jerusalem Municipality’s high demolition fees.
