President Abbas arrives in Baghdad to participate in the 34th Arab Summit

RAMALLAH, May 16, 2025 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas arrived Friday in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, to participate in the 34th ordinary summit of the Arab League, scheduled to commence on Saturday.

Upon his arrival, President Abbas was welcomed by Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein.

During the summit, President Abbas is expected to deliver the State of Palestine’s speech and hold meetings with several participating leaders and heads of state.

The summit carries particular significance given the dire circumstances facing the Palestinian people and their cause, including the ongoing Israeli genocidal war on Gaza, the blockade on humanitarian aid, such as food, water, medicine and fuel, and the intensifying Israeli crimes and colonial expansion across the occupied West Bank, including Jerusalem.

The President was accompanied by the Vice President of the State of Palestine and Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Hussein al-Sheikh, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammad Mustafa, Diplomatic Affairs Advisor to the President, Majdi Al-Khalidi, and Palestine's Ambassador to Iraq, Ahmed al-Ruwaidi.
