BAGHDAD, May 15, 2025 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas is set to arrive in Baghdad on Friday to take part in the 34th Ordinary Arab League Summit, which will be hosted by the Iraqi capital on Saturday.
Palestine's Ambassador to Iraq, Ahmed Al-Ruwaidi, emphasized the significance of the summit for the Palestinian leadership, particularly given the current regional context and the urgent issues on the agenda. Chief among these is President Abbas's priority of ending the genocide being carried out by Israeli forces in Gaza, and facilitating the immediate entry of humanitarian aid—including food, water, medicine, and fuel—into the besieged territory.
Al-Ruwaidi noted the importance of the summit in aligning Arab positions in support of the Palestinian political agenda. It also serves as a key preparatory step for the upcoming international peace conference scheduled for June, jointly led by Saudi Arabia and France, aimed at resolving the Palestinian issue through the implementation of the two-state solution.
The Arab League Summit is expected to issue resolutions reaffirming support for Palestinian rights and proposing steps toward a unified Arab strategy in addressing the crisis.
