Fatah, Hamas reach agreement in Cairo, announcement at 1 p.m.

 

CAIRO, October 12, 2017 (WAFA) – Fatah and Hamas announced in Cairo on Thursday that they have reached an agreement on reconciliation the details of which will be announced at 1 p.m. in Cairo.

The head of Fatah delegation to the reconciliation talks with Hamas, Azzam al-Ahmad, said a press conference will be held at 1 pm Palestine time to announce the details of the agreement reached under Egyptian auspices after two days of talks.

Head of Hamas political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, confirmed at dawn that an agreement was reached between Fatah and Hamas.

The two groups held on Tuesday and Wednesday two sessions of national dialogue in Cairo described as held in a positive atmosphere “out of a sense of national responsibility and in response to the aspirations of the Palestinian people to end the division, achieve national unity and strengthen the steadfastness of our people,” according to Ahmad.

Palestine’s ambassador to Egypt and its Permanent Representative to the Arab League Jamal Shobaki also said that President Mahmoud Abbas has issued instructions to the Fatah delegation to make every effort to achieve national reconciliation and end the division.

He said that President Abbas stressed that the Cairo meetings are a historic opportunity to achieve national reconciliation, which should not be missed because it will serve the interests of the Palestinian people and their just cause.

The Hamas delegation is headed by Saleh al-Arouri, deputy head of the political bureau, Yehya Sinwar, head of Hamas in Gaza, his deputy Khalil al-Hayyeh, and members of the political bureau Izzat al-Rishq, Hussam Badran, Salah al-Bardawil and Musa Abu Marzouk.
