President Abbas, Jordan’s King Abdullah II hold meeting in Amman

AMMAN, September 10, 2025 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas met on Wednesday in the Jordanian capital, Amman, with King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein of Jordan, in the presence of Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II.

The President and the King discussed the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories and briefed King Abdullah II on the Palestinian movement at the international level.

They discussed several issues, most notably the Israeli aggression against Qatar. They reiterated their condemnation of this brutal attack and the importance of standing by Qatar and taking practical and deterrent measures against the Israeli occupation state, within the framework of Arab-Islamic consultations to ensure that such a situation does not recur.

They also discussed strengthening fraternal relations between the two countries and peoples and ways to develop them in all fields.

The President expressed his great appreciation for the important role played by Jordan, under King Abdullah II's leadership, in halting the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including Jerusalem, allowing the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, and preventing displacement.

President Abbas reiterated that the current Palestinian priorities include an immediate and permanent ceasefire, ensuring the unconditional entry of humanitarian aid to stop genocide, famine, destruction, and displacement, the full withdrawal of the Israeli occupation forces from the Gaza Strip, the State of Palestine assuming full governmental and security responsibilities with Arab and international support, and initiating the implementation of the early recovery and reconstruction plan.

He stressed the need for the international community to take practical and serious steps to prevent Israel from implementing its plans to annex the West Bank and impose sovereignty over it, to expedite the cessation of settlement activity and settler terrorism, and to release withheld Palestinian funds.

The President discussed with the King of Jordan the ongoing developments regarding the convening of the high-level international conference on the Palestinian issue and the two-state solution, scheduled to be held on September 22 at the summit level in New York, under the joint sponsorship of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of France.

The two sides affirmed the continued joint coordination between the two brotherly countries to support the Palestinian position seeking to end the occupation in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and international law, and to obtain further recognition of the State of Palestine and its full membership in the United Nations.

The meeting was attended on the Palestinian side by Ziad Abu Amr, Head of the International Relations Department of the Palestine Liberation Organization; Majdi Khalidi, Advisor to the President for Diplomatic Affairs; and Atallah Khairy, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Jordan.
