Palestinians reopen West Bank road closed by Israel, remove roadblocks

RAMALLAH, July 10, 2017 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Military Liaison said Monday that its staff succeeded in opening a road that connected three villages to the south of Nablus that was closed by the Israeli occupation authority two month ago under security pretexts.

It said in a statement that the road connected the villages of Tel, Burin and Madama, which was sealed shut by Israel as a punishment to the village residents for alleged stone throwing incidents at vehicles of Israeli settlers and soldiers.

Residents were forced to take longer and rougher routes to move in an out of their villages.

The liaison office said it also succeeded in removing several roadblocks at entrances to several villages in the West Bank that hindered movement of people.

It mentioned villages such as Beit Lid and Shoufa in the Tulkarm area, Habla in Qalqilya, the northern entrance to Salfit and Surra, the Jeet intersection in the Nablus district, Aboud, Nabi Saleh, Atara, Abu Mishal and Silwad in Ramallah area, Ouja in the Jericho district and the southern entrance to Bethlehem where Israeli forces erected large blocks that prevented free movement of cars.

The military liaison also succeeded in assisting Palestinians to proceed with travel to Jordan across al-Karameh bridge who were earlier banned from travel by Israel.
