JERUSALEM, November 24, 2016 (WAFA) – The body of an alleged Palestinian attacker was laid to rest under strict conditions early Thursday in a Jerusalem cemetery after Israeli security services turned over his body to his family after two months of holding it, according to family members.
Nasib Abu Meizar, 28, was shot dead in September by Israeli soldiers at Qalandiya checkpoint between Jerusalem and Ramallah after he allegedly entered the car lanes on foot yielding a knife.
The family said the security services imposed strict conditions for the burial, including burying him at the early hours and in the presence of only 15 family members, along with paying around $5,000 as a bail that will be forfeited if any of the conditions were not met.
Police cordoned off the cemetery during the burial, closing roads and preventing anyone other than the 15 immediate family members from attending.
The security services held bodies of alleged Palestinian attackers for months as a punishment to the families and started gradually returning them following pressure by the families and the international community.
Israel is still holding bodies of more than 20 Palestinians killed in similar situations in Jerusalem and the West Bank.
