HEBRON, March 9, 2016 (WAFA) - Israeli forces Wednesday detained a Palestinian running over an Israeli settler from Adh-Dhahiriya town, south of Hebron, said security sources.
Forces detained Sahban al-Titi, 27, after breaking into and ransacking his uncle’s house in Adh-Dhahiriya and three days after he was released by Palestinian police.
On October 20, al-Titi was accused of ramming his vehicle into a settler, in his 50s, at al-Fawar junction, south of Hebron.
Al-Titi had turned himself into Palestinian police in Adh-Dhahiriya, saying it was an accident.
Israeli Army Radio had reported that al-Titi was suspected running over the settler deliberately.
On the other hand, WAFA among other local Palestinian news agencies confirmed it was unintentional.
WAFA had reported witnesses as saying that the settler was seen going on a smashing spree, stopping and smashing the windows of Palestinian registered vehicles at the junction and assaulting Palestinian children using a club.
Witnesses had also been reported as saying that the settler was also seen moving to the nearby bypass Road 60, where he continued to stop and smash the glass of Palestinian vehicles travelling along the road.
As the settler went on his car smashing spree, he stopped and attempted to mount the truck and assault the driver. As the driver attempted to swerve out the way, he ran him over.
Even Associated Press photographer Daniel Estrin in Jerusalem, who witnessed the incident, had been widely reported as saying that the settler “exited his car after Palestinian demonstrators threw stones at it and he began to hit passing Palestinian cars with a large stick similar to a baseball bat.”
He reportedly added: “The man (settler) hit a passing truck with the stick, and the truck ran the man over.
