U.S. announces withdrawal from UNESCO citing anti-Israel bias

WASHINGTON, July 21, 2025 (WAFA) - The United States The United States announced Tuesday its withdrawal from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), accusing the organization of anti-Israel bias and promoting divisive issues.

Tammy Bruce, Department Spokesperson, said ‘continued involvement in UNESCO is not in the national interest of the United States.’

The State Department added that the withdrawal was notified due to UNESCO’s support for divisive issues that conflict with U.S. foreign policy.

Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, deeply regretted President Donald Trump's decision to once again withdraw the United States of America from UNESCO. The decision that will take effect at the end of December 2026.

“However regrettable, this announcement was anticipated, and UNESCO has prepared for it,” he stated.
