Israeli Military Vows to Clamp Down on Tulkarm Village

TULKARM, March 3, 2016 (WAFA) – Israeli army Thursday warned to consider collective punishments against the village of Shufa, to the south of Tulkarm, in response to what they claimed as continuing stone attacks by local villagers against the army, according to local sources.

Witnesses told WAFA that Israeli soldiers, who were patrolling at a checkpoint at the entrance to the village, distributed sheets among passengers from the village warning them that a set of military procedures will be taken against the entire village in case stone attacks on Israeli vehicles continue.

The written warning said such procedures may include home raids and searches, demolition of “illegally” constructed homes, as well as intensified military presence in and around the village.

Locals said such a warning comes as a pretext for the demolition of homes that are built without Israeli permits in the village, which is located in Area C, under complete Israeli control.

According to the United Nations monitoring group OCHA, between 2010 and 2014 only 1.5 percent of 2,020 building permit requests submitted by Palestinians to Israeli authorities were approved.
