Child, Doctor Seriously Injured in Bethlehem Clashes

BETHLEHEM, February 28, 2016 (WAFA) – Israeli troops on Sunday shot and injured a Palestinian minor and a medical doctor, during clashes which erupted in the village of al-Khader, south of Bethlehem, according to security sources.

Witnesses told WAFA that clashes erupted between Israeli troops and Palestinians outside the village on Sunday afternoon. The troops used live ammunition against the protesting youths, seriously injuring a child with a live bullet in his chest.

The child was rushed to nearby Yamama hospital for medical treatment, where his condition was described as critical.

According to the same sources, the clashes extended to the surroundings of the hospital, during which the Israeli troops shot and seriously injured 45-year-old Hesham Atwan, a medical doctor, while he was standing outside his medical clinic. He was transferred to Beit Jala public hospital, nearby, with a critical health status.

At least 180 Palestinians have been killed and over 15,200 others injured by Israeli forces since the start of the unrest in the occupied Palestinian territories in early October 2015, according to the Ministry of Health.
