HEBRON, February 24, 2016 (WAFA) – Israeli forces accidentally killed an Israeli soldier as they shot an alleged Palestinian assailant near Gush Etzion settlement bloc, on Hebron-Bethlehem road, according to Israeli media.

Israeli media reported that Israeli forces opened live fire at a Palestinian man following an alleged stabbing attempt near the settlement bloc.

They hit him as well as an Israeli reserve soldier who was standing nearby.

The alleged assailant, identified as Mamdouh Amro, 26, from Hebron, was shot and wounded at the scene.

Meanwhile, the reserve soldier, critically injured, was rushed to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem for further treatment, where he later succumbed to his wounds.

The reserve soldier was reportedly 30.

At least 180 Palestinians have been killed and over 15,200 others injured by Israeli forces since the start of the unrest in the occupied Palestinian territories in early October 2015, according to the Ministry of Health.
