RAMALLAH, February 22, 2016 (WAFA) - The killing of a Palestinian teen by Israeli forces following an alleged stabbing attempt near Beita checkpoint in the northern West Bank coupled with President Mahmoud Abbas’ meeting with US Secretary of State John Kerry in Amman hit the front page headlines of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.

The three dailies reported that a Palestinian teen from the Jenin town of Qabatiya was killed by Israeli forces near Beita, south of Nablus. The teen was identified as Qusay Abu al-Rub, 15.

Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida described Abu al-Rub’s killing as extrajudicial.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam added as part of their main front page news items that Israeli forces detained three Palestinian teens, two girls and a boy, after they allegedly planned to carry out stabbing attacks.

It is worth explaining in this regard that Sajeda Mahmoud, 17, was detained at the Nablus district checkpoint of Zaatara following plans to carry out a stabbing attempt. Sajeda comes from Qusra village, south of Nablus. Meanwhile, the 14-year-old Palestinian boy was detained near Bani Naim village, east of Hebron.

Abbas was reported in the dailies as calling on Kerry to promptly intervene to pressure Israel to release hunger-striking Palestinian detainee Muhammad al-Qiq and as affirming his ongoing efforts to organize international powers to convene an international peace conference.

He was also reported in al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida as calling on Kerry to pressure Israel to return the bodies of Palestinians continued to be withheld by Israel after being shot dead during the latest surge of violence. 

Highlighting the health condition of al-Qiq, the three dailies reported he suffers from acute health elapse and is on the verge of death at any moment.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam reported that Israeli bulldozers demolished an elementary school and seized all of its contents in Abu al-Nawwar Bedouin community, east of Jerusalem.

Highlighting latest Israeli settlement plans, al-Quds reported that Israeli ‘Municipality of Jerusalem’ drafted an organizational plan to expand Ramot settlement on lands belonging to the Jerusalem towns of Beit Hanina, Beit Iksa and Lefta.

It further reported in this regard that Israel plans to seize 45 dunums of land belonging to the Jerusalem towns of Shufat and Anata as well as the Bethlehem town of al-Walaja for the construction of the segregation wall.
