Israeli Soldiers Shoot, Injure Minor after Alleged Stabbing Attempt

HEBRON, February 21, 2016 (WAFA) – A Palestinian minor Sunday was shot and injured by Israeli forces, after he allegedly attempted to stab an Israeli soldier near a West Bank illegal settlement to the east of Hebron, according to security sources.

Israeli armed soldiers opened live fire and injured an unidentified 15-year-old minor, before detaining him, for his alleged partaking in a stabbing attempt against an Israeli soldier near the illegal Israeli settlement of ‘Kiryat Arba’.

Since the onset of violence in early October 2015 across the Palestinian Territory, at least 179 Palestinians, including 39 minors and eight women, have been killed by Israeli forces.

The wave of ongoing unrest was sparked by Israel’s unilateral enforcement of a temporal division on the third holiest site in Islam, al-Aqsa mosque compound, between Muslims and Jews.

According to the Israeli Human rights center, B’Tselem, “Since the beginning of the current wave of violence, there has been a worrying trend to use firearms to kill Palestinians who have attacked Israelis or are suspected of such attacks.”

“Several incidents have been documented and reported, raising concern that the chosen response to such persons is the harshest possible, with lethal or – at the very least – unnecessary consequences.”

The center noted, “In instances when Jews have been suspected of attacks, none of the suspects has been shot.”
