RAMALLAH, February 21, 2016 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies focused in their Sunday issue on the funeral procession of Palestinian local, ‘Aabed Hamed, 20, who was shot dead by Israeli army on Friday.
They said thousands of Palestinian attended the funeral procession of Hamed, which took place in his hometown, Silwad, east of Ramallah. Hammad was shot dead by Israeli army on Friday, after he allegedly attempted to run over some of soldiers outside Silwad.
On a different subject, al-Ayyam said that the Association for Civil Rights in Israel recently observed a noticeable increase in child arrests by Israeli police in Jerusalem.
Al-Quds said Israeli army detained 10 pro-Palestinian Israeli activists in Hebron on Saturday.
Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida said Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah phoned journalist Mohammad al-Qiq, who has been on hunger strike for at least 89 days over being detained by Israeli without a charge or trial, and informed him that the government and President Mahmoud Abbas were exerting utmost efforts to ensure his release.
The three dailies, including al-Ayyam, said al-Qiq’s health has significantly deteriorated. The dailies said a special Israeli police unit, accompanied by sniffer dogs, late night Saturday raided Afula hospital, where al-Qiq is being held.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said the government called on public schools’ teachers, who have been on an open-ended strike in protest of receiving unrewarding salaries, to go back to work to avert “catastrophic” consequences.
