RAMALLAH, January 24, 2016 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Arabic dailies focused in their Sunday issue on the Israeli soldiers’ fatal shooting of a 13-year-old Palestinian girl near the town of Anata, east of Jerusalem.
The dailies said Israeli troops on Saturday fatally shot 13-year-old Ruqayya Abu Eid, after she allegedly attempted to stab a security guard outside Anata town.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said an unidentified Palestinian youth was shot dead by Israeli soldiers near the town of Abu Dis, east of Jerusalem, on Saturday evening. They said Israeli sources claimed that the youth was killed after a hand grenade allegedly in his possession detonated.
The three dailies also focused on the low pressure affecting Palestine now, saying its effects will last for about three days.
The dailies focused on remarks made by President Mahmoud Abbas, who said that “whoever agrees to a Palestinian state without East Jerusalem as its capital is a traitor.”
Al-Quds said members of Hamas and Fatah movements met several times in Doha, the capital of Qatar, in an effort to discuss ways to achieve national reconciliation.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said hunger striking Palestinian prisoner in Israeli jails, journalist Mohammad al-Qiq, entered his third month of hunger strike in protest against his administrative detention without charge or trial.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said deputy Hamas chief Ismail Haniya said Hamas is not interested in another war with Israel, but that the people of Palestine are able to defend themselves.
