RAMALLAH, January 13, 2016 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies focused in their Wednesday issue on the Israeli army’s fatal shooting of three Palestinians in Hebron and Bethlehem on Tuesday.
They said Israeli troops shot dead two Palestinian youths, Adnan Halaiqa, 17, and Mohammad Kawazbeh, 23, after they allegedly attempted to stab soldiers near the village of Beit Anoun, east of Hebron.
The incident came about an hour after troops fatally shot a Palestinian teenager, 17-year-old Srour Srour, during clashes between youths and Israeli soldiers in Beit Jala town, northwest of Bethlehem.
Al-Quds said Israeli soldiers stationed at Container Israeli military checkpoint, northeast of Bethlehem, opened live fire at a vehicle before the driver managed to flee. Media sources reported that the Palestinian driver, and possible passengers, allegedly opened fire at the soldiers manning the checkpoint, before the latter responded with fire.
Al-Ayyam said dozens of Palestinians were injured during clashes with Israeli forces in Jerusalem and Bethlehem districts on Tuesday.
In a different subject, al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that Swedish Foreign Minister, Margot Wallstrom, called on Tuesday for the opening of an investigation to determine whether Israel was guilty of extrajudicial killings of Palestinians in recent weeks.
The three dailies said the Council of Ministers, in its weekly meeting on Tuesday, decided to put under examination a new system for the high school education (Tawjihi).
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the price of oil slipped below $30 a barrel for the first time since 2003.
Al-Ayyam said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he was worried over new potential sanctions by the European Union against Israel’s settlements.
