RAMALLAH, January 12, 2016 (WAFA) – The Israeli military raid into Birzeit University campus, north of Ramallah, on Monday hit the front page headlines in Palestinian dailies.
The three dailies reported that Israeli forces raided Birzeit University Campus, breaking into and ransacking the Students’ Council Office and students factions’ headquarters. This theme was covered as the main front page news articles in al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida.
Al-Quds added in this regard that over 15 military vehicles raided the university campus.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida added in this regard that forces seized computers and electronic equipment and destroyed furniture, leaving a great deal of havoc behind.
On the other hand, al-Quds reported in its main front page article that Israel released the body of Mustafa al-Khatib, 17, nearly three months after he was shot dead by Israeli police, following an alleged stabbing attempt in East Jerusalem.
Al-Quds reported that Israeli forces shot and injured three Palestinian young men in the Jenin town of Ya‘bad, Bethlehem and the Jerusalem town of Hizma.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida also reported that Israeli forces shot and injured a Palestinian minor in the Jerusalem town of Hizma and a young man in the Tulkarem town of Saida.
Highlighting other Israeli military violations against Palestinians, al-Quds reported that Israeli forces handed stop-construction notices for agricultural pools, houses and a water well in the Hebron towns of Beit Ummar and Yatta.
Al-Ayyam reported that Israeli forces detained a total of 21 Palestinians from West Bank.
Al-Ayyam also reported that Israeli forces shut down Huwara checkpoint, connecting Nablus and Ramallah cities, restricting the movement of hundreds of Palestinian registered vehicles.
Al-Quds highlighted Israel’s plans to expand the route of the light rail in Jerusalem.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam reported on the US as expressing concerns over a proposed Israeli bill that would force NGOs to disclose if more than half their funding comes from foreign sources. Al-Ayyam added that this bill is intended to tighten the noose around such NGOs.
Highlighting the initiative pushed by Palestinian factions to broker a proposal for the reopening of Rafah border crossing with Egypt, al-Ayyam reported that Palestinian factions have rejected Hamas’ ideas on the reopening of the border crossing.
It also reported them as preparing for a new meeting in an attempt to find a solution to this problem.
Furthermore, al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that Israeli police arrested a left-wing Jewish on suspicion of informing the Palestinian security forces about Palestinians who were selling their land to Israeli settlers in the West Bank.
Regionally, al-Quds reported that UNRWA’s centers closed down in Burj al-Shamali and al-Badawi refugee camps as hundreds of Palestinian refugees protested against the reduction of UNRWA-provided health services and financial aid to sick refugees.
It described Palestinian refugees protests in Burj al-Shamali as a “popular uprising” and noted that protestors accused the UNRWA administration of waging an open war against them.
