RAMALLAH, July 5, 2015 (WAFA) –
The three Palestinian Arabic dailies focused in their Sunday issue on Israeli
West Jerusalem municipality’s decision to confiscate 600 dunums of private Palestinian
land in the town of Issawiya, just north of Jerusalem.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that,
according to Israeli human rights group Peace Now, Nir Barakat, Mayor of
Jerusalem, ordered the confiscation of the said land, which he noted would be
allocated to establishing a “national garden”.
Meanwhile, al-Quds quoted
Defense for Children International which said that 17-year-old Mohammad al-Kasabah, who was shot dead by an
Israeli army officer last Friday, posed no threat to the officer’s life.
Al-Quds reported that Israeli
settlers attacked Palestinian in their vehicles with stones at Highway 1, east
of Jerusalem, late Saturday. It added that two Palestinians were injured lightly,
before Israeli police arrived at the scene.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Ayyam
reported on Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi’s declaration of a state of
emergency in the country on Saturday, saying the “Islamist” militant attack on
a beach hotel that killed 38 foreigners last month had left the country “in a
state of war”.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the
Palestine Cellular Communications company “Jawwal” in Gaza denied it had
reached an agreement with Hamas to reopen its Gaza offices. Jawwal’s offices in
Gaza were shut down last month over a tax dispute with Hamas.
Al-Ayyam said the International
Crisis Group ruled out the possibility of a prolonged calm in Jerusalem’s
al-Aqsa Mosque, which has recently seen relative peace after months of
escalation last year.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the
Israeli army commander of Gaza Brigade, Col. Nohi Mandel, said that amidst the
raging fight in Sinai between Egyptian government forces and Islamic State
group, Israel prefers that Hamas continues to maintain its rule in Gaza to
prevent a possible takeover of Gaza by IS.
Al-Ayyam said three children
and a woman were killed during two separate security incidents in the Sinai
Peninsula.
