RAMALLAH, July 1, 2015 (WAFA) –
Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization
(PLO) Yasser Abed Rabbo has been discharged from the post, Ahmad al-Majdalani,
member of the PLO Executive Committee, said on Wednesday.
Majdalani told a local radio
that during an Executive Committee meeting on Tuesday, senior PLO officials
agreed to discharge Abed Rabbo and thus temporarily assigning his duties to
President Mahmoud Abbas before another chairman is appointed.
Abed Rabbo began his political
life in the mid 1960s, but only gained prominence after the signing of the Oslo
Accords between the PLO and Israel in 1993. He was a cabinet member for FIDA
party in several of the Palestinian National Authority governments, and served
on several Palestinian diplomatic delegations during negotiations with Israel.
Meanwhile, Abbas told the PLO
meeting he had asked Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah to consider a minor cabinet
reshuffle on the current National Consensus government. The decision came after
talks with Hamas on a unity government arrived at an impasse.
