RAMALLAH, June 25, 2015 (WAFA)
– Ongoing talks on forming a national unity government made headlines in the three
Palestinian Arabic dailies on Thursday.
Al-Quds reported on ongoing
talks to form a national unity government, which are faced by a number of
obstacles. It added that President Mahmoud Abbas might rather consider a
reshuffle of the current consensus government.
In its main news story,
al-Ayyam said the Islamic Movement Hamas demanded that forming a new government
should come as a consequence of a thorough national dialogue, rather than by a
presidential decree. It said Hamas reiterated its denial to commit to the PLO’s
political program as a prerequisite for joining a unity government.
Al-Quds said political analysts
ruled out the possibility of a successful unity government to be formed.
Meanwhile, al-Hayat al-Jadida
highlighted that the State of Palestine will officially present an initial
batch of information to the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Thursday, in
order to assist with its preliminary examination into crimes committed by
Israel on the territory of the occupied State, including East Jerusalem, since
June 13 2014.
Al-Quds said Chief Palestinian
negotiator Saeb Erekat said Palestine will ask the ICC to look into crimes
committed by Israel during the aggression on Gaza, crimes against Palestinian
prisoners and the issue of settlement construction and expansion.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida
said Israel cancelled 500 entry permits granted to Palestinians in Gaza to
perform prayers in the holy al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem during the holy month
of Ramadan.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Quds said
Israeli warplanes launched an airstrike on Gaza on Wednesday, however no
casualties were reported.
Al-Ayyamd and al-Hayata
al-Jadida said Palestinian administrative detainees in Israeli prisons decided
to boycott trials in the Israeli courts as of July 1; under administrative
detention, prisoners are held in prison without charge or trial and for
renewable periods.
Al-Quds said the Israeli army
notified a local resident of Kisan, east of Bethlehem, about their intent to
demolish agricultural structures of his own, under the pretext of construction
without a permit.
Al-Ayyam said Turkish Foreign
Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Israeli and Turkish officials recently held
meetings to renormalize relations between the two counties.
