RAMALLAH, June 20, 2015 (WAFA) – The fatal shooting of an Israeli settler
and the wounding of two others by a Palestinian suspect near the illegal
Israeli settlement of Dolev in the West Bank district of Ramallah together with
the fact that nearly a quarter million Muslim worshippers performed Friday
prayers in the Al-Aqsa mosque, hit the front page headlines in Palestinian
daily newspapers.
Highlighting Israel’s decision to partially ease movement restrictions
ahead and during the Muslims’ fasting month of Ramadan in its main front page
news article, al-Quds reported that 200,000 worshippers performed their Friday
prayers in the Al-Aqsa mosque, while tens of thousands performed their prayers
in the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron. The same news item was reported in the other
two dailies.
The three dailies printed a photo featuring the mosque’s compound
crowded with worshippers.
On the other hand, al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida opted to give
prominence to the fatal shooting of an Israeli near Ramallah.
The three dailies reported that an Israeli ‘settler’ was killed to
the west of Ramallah.
Al-Ayyam added in this regard that a manhunt by Israeli occupation
forces’ is underway for the suspected Palestinian attacker.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that the suspected attacker has
‘frustrated’ Israeli intelligence officers.
Covering Israeli forces and settlers’ practices across the occupied
Palestinian Territory, al-Quds reported that a Palestinian young man was shot
by Israeli forces to the east of Khan Younes.
Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that
several Palestinians were shot with live rounds and dozens others suffocated as
Israeli forces quelled Friday peaceful marches in the Qalqilya village of Kafr
Qaddum as well as the Ramallah villages on Nabi Saleh and Bil‘in.
Al-Quds also reported that three Israeli soldiers
were injured after their military vehicle overturned while pursuing a
Palestinian vehicle near the village of Ras Karkar to the northwest of
Ramallah..
Al-Ayyam reported that Israeli occupation forces
detained three Palestinians purportedly for weapon possession.
Covering the 15th session of Fatah
Revolutionary Council, the three dailies reported the council as stating that,
‘We’ refuse the temporary state solution or establishing a state in the Gaza
Strip.
The council was also quoted in al-Quds and
al-Hayat al-Jadida as stating: “The current Palestinian reality requires unity,
solidarity and group work among all Palestinians.”
PLO Executive Committee member Saeb Erekat was
quoted in al-Quds as affirming the need for all states committed to
international law to recognize the state of Palestine along 1967 borders.
The three dailies reported that France’s Foreign
Minister Laurent Fabius heads today to the Middle East to sell a peace
initiative.
Al-Ayyam noted that Fabius intends to sell the
French draft resolution to be submitted to the UN Security Council.
Al-Quds reported that having acquiesced to Jewish
religious groups, the Israeli ]West[ Jerusalem
Municipality has decided to consult the rabbis before it approves any Christian
conference to be held in Jerusalem.
It also reported that Palestinians in Jerusalem
are charged by the Israeli water company of Jihon double the price of water
paid by the Jews.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported Israeli
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as slamming statements made by UN
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, in which he demanded Israel to protect the lives
of Gaza children. He was reported as saying: “This is a black day for the
UN.”
