Newspaper Review: Knesset’s Bill Preventing Granting ‘Pardon’ to Palestinian Prisoners Focus of Dailies

RAMALLAH, September 23, 2014 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies highlighted in their Tuesday issue a bill passed by that the Israeli parliament, Knesset, preventing granting pardon to Palestinian prisoners in case of a political deal.

Following are the main headlines:

Al-Hayat al-Jadida:

 

-President [Abbas] holds a series of meetings with the Arab Group in New York to coordinate positions.

-“Baker” family calls on the UN to reveal [the fate] of its family members who [drowned] at sea.

-Constitutional committee of the Knesset approves a bill banning the granting of pardon to [Palestinian] prisoners.

-Activists defy contractors [who arrived in] lands threatened with confiscation in al-Eizariya and Abu Dis.

-Lieberman: either the current [Israeli] coalition continues, or [we go to] early elections.

-Founder of the assassination unit of the Mossad, Michael Harari, dies.

-Israeli Statistics: 6 million Jews [are living in Israel], of whom 600 thousand settlers are in the West Bank.

-Weather Service: a rainy low pressure is expected for next week.

-[Palestinian] leadership is acting at all diplomatic fronts for the benefit of ‘Gaza, internal reconciliation and end of occupation.’

-Israeli Internal Security Minister praises the harshening policies of arresting minors in Jerusalem.

Al-Quds:

 

-Before returning to Cairo negotiations, Israel passes a bill preventing release of Palestinian prisoners.

-Cairo hosts Hamas-Fatah meeting, set for today, for reconciliation.

-Hamdallah examines in New York ways to support the budget and rebuild Gaza.

-UN Human Rights Council calls for referring the file [regarding] violence [committed] in Gaza to the International Criminal Court.

-Gaza pilgrims arrive in Mecca, while West Bank pilgrims will arrive on Wednesday or Thursday.

-Makassed Hospital [in Jerusalem] is facing the ‘ghost’ of shutdown.

-[Activists] expel contractors who arrived in Abu Dis to implement a plan aimed at expelling [Palestinian Bedouins] and settling [Israelis instead].

-[Presidential spokesman] Nabil Abu Rudainah: President [Abbas] meets with the Arab Group to coordinate the positions before meeting with the American side.

-A U.S. court convicts the Arab Bank of financing “terrorism.”

-Statements by extremist groups in the Knesset call for intensifying raids [on al-Aqsa[ during the upcoming Jewish holidays.

-Palestinian action [is being mobilized] at all fronts for the benefit of Gaza, reconciliation, and the defiance of the occupation.

Al-Ayyam:

 

-Al-Eizariya: occupation [forces] crack down on a protest, which [was organized] against conducting surveys on acres of land threatened with seizure [by Israel.]
