EU calls on Israel to lift Gaza blockade immediately, allow humanitarian aid access

BRUSSELS, May 2, 2025 (WAFA) - The EU Spokesman for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Anouar El Anouni, urged Israel, the occupying power, to immediately lift its blockade on the Gaza Strip and allow the entry of humanitarian aid.

“We do repeat our call on Israel to lift the blockade on Gaza to allow these humanitarian aid to start flowing at scale into, and throughout the Gaza Strip,” Anouar El Anouni said, speaking at the EU Commission’s daily press briefing in Brussels.

El Anouni voiced deep concern about the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in Gaza, stating: “We are extremely concerned by the reports of the humanitarian situation, which suggests that food supplies brought in during the ceasefire are running out.”

He recalled the European Union's position that the delivery of humanitarian aid to civilians in need must be carried out in accordance with international humanitarian law.

Since March 2, Israel has blocked the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, despite the fact that the vast majority of Gaza’s population now relies almost entirely on such aid. According to data from the World Bank, ongoing genocide over the past 19 months has plunged most residents into poverty.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a relentless aggression on the Gaza Strip, resulting in more than 170,000 Palestinians killed or wounded, the majority of whom are children and women. Over 11,000 are reported missing. The sustained bombardment has also caused massive destruction across the Strip.
