TULKARM, May 2, 2025 (WAFA) — Israeli occupation forces opened fire Friday morning on displaced Palestinian residents as they attempted to enter Tulkarm and Nour Shams refugee camps to retrieve belongings from their homes, which are under imminent threat of demolition.
According to local sources, the residents had been previously granted permission by the Israeli military to access the camps. However, upon arrival, they were met with live gunfire, forcing many to retreat in fear for their lives. No injuries were reported.
The incident follows demolition orders issued by the Israeli military on Thursday night, giving residents just 24 hours to retrieve their belongings before the destruction of a total of 106 structures — including 58 buildings in Tulkarm Camp and 48 homes in Nour Shams Camp.
Since January 2025, the Israeli occupation military has intensified its assaults in the northern West Bank, particularly targeting the Tulkarm, Nour Shams, and Jenin refugee camps. The offensive, initiated on January 21, began with the siege of Jenin and rapidly expanded to encompass Tulkarm and Nour Shams.
By mid-February, over 90% of the residents in these camps had been displaced, with more than 20,000 people fleeing their homes. During the ongoing offensive, Israeli forces have demolished hundreds of homes, destroyed essential infrastructure, and imposed sieges that hinder access to basic services.
