RAMALLAH, September 1, 2026 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Presidency warned of the dangers of the continued and escalating religious war waged by the Israeli occupation army and colonists against the Al-Aqsa Mosque and other religious sites.
It emphasized that the systematic attacks had crossed all red lines and risked triggering a religious conflict with serious consequences for the region and the world.
In a statement, the Presidency said that the colonists' attempt to set fire to the Nur al-Din Zangi Mosque in the town of Beita, northwest of Nablus, , and spray racist slogans on its walls, coincided with the Israeli internal security minister’s storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
It said the incidents demonstrated that attacks on religious sites had become a systematic policy adopted and protected by the Israeli government.
The Presidency stressed that targeting mosques and places of worship, the repeated incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and allowing the performance of Talmudic rituals in its courtyards are not mere isolated provocations, but rather part of a dangerous plan to impose a new reality, alter the historical and legal status quo at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, impose Israeli control over it, and undermine its Islamic character.
The Presidency warned that the continuation of the repeated attacks, and the accompanying incitement, is the full responsibility of the occupying government, which is pushing matters toward this dangerous escalation.
The Presidency stressed that the Al-Aqsa Mosque, with its entire area of 144 dunams, is a purely Islamic mosque, and that East Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites are an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territory.
It emphasized that any measures or practices aimed at altering the existing historical and legal status quo are illegitimate.
The Presidency called upon the international community, and the United Nations, particularly the Security Council, to take immediate and serious action to stop these crimes and to adopt practical and effective measures that compel the occupying authorities to cease their attacks on holy sites and to provide international protection for the Palestinian people and their holy places.
