RAMALLAH, April
26, 2014 – (WAFA) – The Palestinian Central Council presided by President
Mahmoud Abbas convened on Saturday at the presidential headquarters
in Ramallah.
Palestinian
National Council Chairman Salim Al-Zanoun called for the immediate
implementation of reconciliation deal and to confront the Israeli ongoing
escalation.
He
stated: “Israel has caused the negotiations to come to a deadlock. It has
consolidated settlement construction and land grab and has reneged on its
commitment to release the fourth batch of veteran Palestinian prisoners.”
He
called upon Arab states to offer financial support for the Palestinian people,
primarily Jerusalem, and take firm and strong positions on the Israeli policies
of Judaization.
In
regard to acceding to international treaties and organizations, he stated that
such move “has reinforced the legal personality of the state of Palestine and
paved the way for a new phase in dealing with Israel and bringing the Israeli
policy of procrastination to an end.”
In
regard to Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli prisons, he noted that “it is
the time to hold Israel accountable for its crimes against prisoners in
accordance with the Geneva Accords and the Convention against Torture to which
Palestine acceded.”
