JERUSALEM, September 8, 2026 (WAFA) – Israeli forces have continued since last night to impose a tight siege on the town of Anata and Shuafat refugee camp, northeast of occupied Jerusalem, amid a heavy military presence, the closure of roads and entrances leading to the area, and restrictions on residents’ movement. The measures have coincided with continued raids, arrests and searches of homes and commercial establishments.

The siege and movement restrictions have disrupted classes at schools and kindergartens in the town and camp. Shops have also remained closed, with their owners prevented from opening them, causing widespread disruption to commercial activity and daily life for around 80,000 residents in the area.

The Jerusalem Governorate said Israeli forces are continuing a widespread arrest campaign, with around 100 Palestinians, including a woman, estimated to have been detained or arrested since the start of the assault. Raids and field interrogations are still ongoing.

Israeli forces have also raided dozens of homes in Anata and Shuafat refugee camp, subjecting residents to interrogation and searches. They have stormed a number of shops and private businesses, forcibly removed the doors of some establishments and damaged their contents, while also seizing several residents’ vehicles.

Israeli forces continue to tighten military restrictions on residents entering and leaving the area, subjecting them to slow and thorough searches.

Local sources reported that Israeli forces are currently allowing vehicles to leave Anata after subjecting them to lengthy and meticulous searches at the town’s entrance, amid the ongoing military assault.

Dozens of residents were forced to spend hours inside their vehicles last night after roads were closed and they were prevented from reaching their homes. Among them were people from outside the town and camp who became stranded in the area as the military closure continued.
