BEIJING, August 10, 2026 (WAFA) — Typhoon Dolphin made landfall in densely populated eastern China on Sunday evening, according to meteorological authorities, after forcing the cancellation of more than 1,000 flights, triggering evacuations and prompting authorities to raise warning levels to their highest.
Across areas along the typhoon's path, commercial activities and transportation were suspended in several locations as China's eastern coast had been preparing for the storm's arrival for days.
The China Meteorological Administration said in an online post that wind speeds exceeded 150 kilometers per hour after the typhoon crossed the coast near the city of Yuhuan in Zhejiang Province. The storm led to flight cancellations, evacuations and the suspension of activities and transportation services, while its effects extended to Japan and Taiwan.
China Central Television (CCTV) reported that around 1,400 flights to and from Shanghai's two main airports were canceled on Sunday.
In neighboring Zhejiang Province, 270 flights to and from Hangzhou Airport were also suspended.
The Hong Kong Observatory said the storm's movement toward the vicinity of Zhejiang and its landfall would cause surrounding air to sink, resulting in extremely hot weather in the region today and tomorrow.
