US advance to FIFA World Cup round of 16 with 2-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina; Bosnian fans express solidarity with Palestine

WASHINGTON, Thursday, July 2, 2026 (WAFA) – The United States secured a place in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0 on Wednesday.

Folarin Balogun opened the scoring with his third goal of the tournament before being sent off after receiving a straight red card for an accidental challenge on a Bosnia and Herzegovina defender. The dismissal means he will miss the United States' Round of 16 match against Belgium, scheduled for July 6 in Seattle.

Despite being reduced to 10 players, the United States doubled its lead through Malik Tillman, who scored from a free kick to seal the victory.

The Americans progressed to the knockout stage after winning their opening two group matches before concluding the group phase with a 3-2 defeat to Türkiye.

Meanwhile, supporters of Bosnia and Herzegovina expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people as they made their way to the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium, waving Palestinian flags alongside Bosnian flags and chanting, "Palestina, Palestina."

Many Bosnian supporters have voiced support for Palestine, citing similarities between the Palestinians' experience and Bosnia and Herzegovina's own history of war, ethnic cleansing, violence and displacement during the 1992–1995 Bosnian War.
