JEDDAH, Thursday, July 2, 2026 (WAFA) – The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) reaffirmed the political, legal and humanitarian role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in protecting and assisting Palestinian refugees.
The Secretariat said UNRWA plays a vital role in providing humanitarian services, including education, healthcare and social protection, to Palestinian refugees throughout the occupied Palestinian territory, including the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip, as well as in refugee camps across the diaspora.
It also stressed the unity of the Palestinian people at home and in the diaspora, and reaffirmed the legal, political and geographical unity of the occupied State of Palestine, including the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
The OIC renewed its call for respect for UNRWA's role and responsibilities, the protection of its institutions, and the preservation of the mandate granted to the Agency under United Nations General Assembly Resolution 302 of 1949 across its five fields of operation. It also rejected any attempts to undermine, reduce, replace or eliminate the Agency's indispensable role.
The Secretariat urged all OIC member states, international partners and donor countries to continue providing UNRWA with financial, political, legal and media support to enable it to maintain its services for Palestinian refugees.
