HEBRON, June 25, 2026 (WAFA) – Mayor of Hebron Youssef Al Jabari on Thursday assumed the presidency of the United Cities and Local Governments Middle East and West Asia (UCLG-MEWA).
The announcement was made during the UCLG World Congress held in Tangier, Morocco, marking a new phase of joint action aimed at empowering cities and strengthening their role in shaping development policies at the regional and international levels.
Al Jabari is the Mayor of Hebron and is considered one of the prominent leaders in the fields of local administration and urban development in Palestine. He possesses over two decades of distinguished professional and institutional experience, during which he has played a pivotal role in developing the municipal work system, strategic planning, infrastructure development, and promoting sustainable urban transformation in a city that is among the most ancient and significant Palestinian cities historically and economically.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Palestine Polytechnic University and a Master’s degree in Urban Planning from Birzeit University. Throughout his career, he has successfully combined technical expertise, administrative competence, and strategic vision, contributing to the development of institutional performance and upgrading the level of public services and infrastructure in Hebron.
Al Jabari is widely recognized for his steadfast commitment to enhancing citizens’ resilience, improving the quality of public services, supporting sustainable economic and social development, and preserving the historical and national identity of Hebron, reflecting its status as one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities with the deepest cultural significance in the world.
