Vice President Al-Sheikh and Egyptian FM discuss developments in Palestinian Territory

RAMALLAH, March 23, 2026 (WAFA) – Palestinian Vice President Hussein Al-Sheikh and Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty discussed on Monday over the phone developments in the Palestinian Territory (the West Bank and the Gaza Strip).

During the phone conversation, Vice President al-Sheikh and Egyptian Foreign Minister Abdelatty touched upon the implications of the current developments for security and stability in the occupied Palestinian territory, including the escalating violence by colonists in the West Bank.

Al-Sheikh expressed appreciation for Egypt’s ongoing role in support of the Palestinian cause and stressed the importance of ongoing coordination and consultation in the coming period.

The top Egyptian diplomat reiterated Egypt's condemnation of the rise in colonist attacks against Palestinian civilians and their property, emphasizing that such acts constitute a blatant violation of international law and undermine prospects for peace.

He stressed the importance of moving forward with the full implementation of the second phase of US President Donald Trump’s plan, including the deployment of an international stabilization force and the entry of the Gaza Management Committee into the Strip to begin its work, paving the way for the Palestinian Authority to fully assume its responsibilities.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister highlighted the need to maintain territorial unity between the Gaza Strip and the West Bank and resist all displacement schemes aimed at liquidating the Palestinian cause, noting this as a cornerstone of the two-state solution.

Both sides agreed on the importance of not diverting attention from daily violations in Gaza and the West Bank due to the current regional and international focus on developments linked to Iran. They called for increased international efforts to halt escalation, protect civilians, promote dialogue and diplomacy, and create conditions for resuming the political process toward a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian cause.
