Vice President discusses humanitarian situation in Gaza with Japanese official

RAMALLAH, Wednesday, July 1, 2026 (WAFA) – Vice President Hussein Al-Sheikh met on Wednesday with Japanese Special Envoy for Reconstruction of Gaza, Ambassador Takeshi Okubo, to discuss mechanisms for Japan’s contribution to improving the humanitarian and living conditions of residents in the Gaza Strip amid the ongoing crisis and Israeli aggression.

Al-Sheikh expressed appreciation for Japan’s continued support for the Palestinian people, praising its humanitarian and development contributions under the difficult circumstances.

He briefed the Japanese delegation on the latest political developments, including the ongoing Israeli assault on Gaza, escalating settler attacks in the West Bank, and the continued withholding of Palestinian clearance revenues, which he said is severely affecting the Palestinian government’s ability to meet its obligations.

Okubo reaffirmed Japan’s continued support for the Palestinian cause and its commitment to assisting efforts aimed at improving humanitarian conditions and supporting reconstruction in Gaza, as well as strengthening stability and living conditions for Palestinians.
