Germany says recent Israeli decisions additional step toward de facto annexation

BERLIN, February 11, 2026 (WAFA) – Germany criticized on Wednesday Israel's plans to tighten its grip on the occupied West Bank as an additional step toward de facto annexation, amid escalating international anger over the move.

The German Foreign Ministry stressed in a statement that Israel remains the occupying power in the West Bank.

As an occupying power, the statement added, Israel's construction of colonies is a violation of international law, including the transfer of certain administrative tasks to Israeli civilian authorities.

In the same context, the German Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Reem Alabali-Radovan, expressed deep concern over the recent Israeli decisions related to land law in the West Bank, considering that they would make it difficult for Germany to support the residents of the West Bank and obstruct any horizon for a peaceful and lasting solution to the conflict in the Middle East.

According to Deutsche Welle, Minister Radovan expressed in a press statement yesterday evening her deep concern over the recent decisions of the Israeli government regarding land law in the West Bank, stressing that these measures close the way to a peaceful and lasting solution to the conflict in the Middle East.

She emphasized that these policies lead in practice to the displacement of Palestinians from their lands, asserting that what is happening is being carried out through further illegal seizure of land.

She affirmed that this exacerbates the humanitarian situation and increases the complexity of the political scene in the region, threatening the chances of peace and hindering the two-state solution, warning that the new policies make German projects supporting Palestinians vulnerable to risk.
