RAMALLAH, February 10, 2026(WAFA) - Vice President and Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Hussein al-Sheikh, held an expanded meeting on Tuesday in the city of Ramallah, bringing together ambassadors of Arab and Western countries, representatives of diplomatic missions, as well as officials from international organizations operating in Palestine, to discuss the ongoing Israeli escalation and its grave repercussions on the political and humanitarian situation.
Al-Sheikh briefed participants on the latest developments related to the practices of the Israeli occupation, particularly the continued aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, accompanied by an unprecedented siege, starvation, and humanitarian suffering. He also highlighted the escalation of colonists’ attacks in the West Bank, the ongoing policies of land confiscation, and the withholding of Palestinian funds, which has led to a severe financial and economic crisis, constituting a blatant violation of international law and relevant international legitimacy resolutions.
During the meeting, al-Sheikh stressed the determination to move forward in strengthening democracy in Palestine, holding elections at all levels, advancing reforms, combating corruption, and drafting a constitution for the State of Palestine, as part of the long-standing process of preparation for the transition from authority to statehood.
Al-Sheikh also reviewed the recent decisions of the Israeli ministerial council, which represent a clear renunciation of obligations and signed agreements and a direct undermining of all international conventions and treaties. He warned of the consequences of these policies on the prospects for achieving security and stability in the region.
He emphasized the need for the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities and to exert genuine and effective pressure on the occupation government to halt its aggression and ongoing violations, respect international law, and ensure respect for the sovereignty of the internationally recognized State of Palestine.
He affirmed that continued international silence encourages the occupation to persist in its aggressive and colonial policies, noting that mere condemnation and denunciation are no longer sufficient. The international community, he said, must take clear and deterrent measures that genuinely contribute to the implementation of international law and international legitimacy resolutions, leading to the establishment of the Palestinian State.
