GENEVA, January 23, 2026 (WAFA) – The United States has officially completed its withdrawal from the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations health agency.
In a statement on Thursday, the US Department of Health and Human Services announced the end of the country’s 78-year membership in the WHO, following President Donald Trump’s decision last year to leave the organization.
The department said the United States has cut all funding to the WHO and has recalled all American staff working with the agency.
According to the WHO, the United States’ debt to the organization exceeds $130 million.
