OIC condemns Israeli demolition of UNRWA facilities, calls on the international community to uphold its responsibilities

JEDDAH, January 21, 2026 (WAFA) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned the Israeli occupation forces' storming and demolition of facilities belonging to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in occupied Jerusalem. The OIC considered this a dangerous escalation and a flagrant violation of the UN Charter and its resolutions, the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, and the 1946 Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations.

In a press statement issued Wednesday, the OIC affirmed that the occupation's targeting of UNRWA's headquarters in occupied Jerusalem is part of its illegal attempts to liquidate the refugee issue by undermining UNRWA's presence and its vital role, which stands as a testament to the international community's commitment to the Palestinian refugee question and the protection of their rights under relevant UN resolutions.

The OIC also called on the international community to uphold its responsibilities. The organization reiterated its call to the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to take the necessary decisions and measures to protect UNRWA's mandate, facilities, and staff, and to compel Israel—the occupying power—to cease its violations and respect its obligations under international law.
