JEDDAH, January 15, 2026 (WAFA) — The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israel’s far-right Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, under the protection of Israeli occupation forces.
In a statement, the OIC said the move constitutes an extension of ongoing violations and unlawful plans aimed at altering the historical and legal status quo of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The organization reaffirmed that Israel, as the occupying power, has no sovereignty over the occupied city of Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites. It stressed that Al-Aqsa Mosque, with its full area of 144 dunums, is an exclusive place of worship for Muslims.
The OIC also called on the international community to assume its responsibilities and compel Israel to halt all its ongoing crimes and violations across the occupied Palestinian territory, including occupied Jerusalem.
