JERUSALEM, December 16, 2025 (WAFA) – The Director of UNRWA Affairs in the West Bank, Roland Friedrich, said that more shocking news is emerging from the northern West Bank following a new demolition order issued by Israeli forces targeting Nur Shams refugee camp.
Friedrich explained that the new demolition order places approximately 25 structures in the camp under imminent threat of demolition, effective December 18, which will affect hundreds of Palestinian refugees who have already been forcibly displaced.
He noted that, based on satellite imagery, nearly 48% of the total structures in Nur Shams camp had already been damaged or destroyed even before the latest demolition order was issued.
Friedrich stated that this order “is part of a recurring pattern witnessed in the area this year, whereby Israeli forces demolish homes with the aim of establishing long-term control over the camps in the northern West Bank, which will lead to a permanent change in the geographic character of these camps.”
He added that these demolitions are justified under the pretext of so-called "military necessity," stressing that they do not make anyone safer.
Frederick emphasized that the forced displacement of more than 32,000 Palestinian refugees in the northern West Bank must not become permanent, noting that the residents have been anxiously waiting for eleven months to return to their homes, but that hope fades with every strike of the bulldozers.
