Jordan condemns Israeli approval of 19 new colonial settlements in the West Bank

AMMAN, December 13, 2025 (WAFA) – Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the Israeli government’s approval of the establishment and legalization of 19 new illegal colonial settlements in the occupied West Bank, describing the move as a flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law.

The Jordanian Foreign Ministry said the decision undermines efforts to achieve the two-state solution and constitutes a clear violation of the Palestinian people’s inalienable right to self-determination, to end the occupation, and to establish an independent, sovereign state on the June 4, 1967 lines, with occupied Jerusalem as its capital. It stressed that Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied West Bank.

Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Fuad Al-Majali affirmed Jordan’s firm condemnation and absolute rejection of the Israeli government’s continued settlement projects and plans in the occupied West Bank, noting that they entrench occupation and colonial expansion, blatantly undermine international will to realize the two-state solution, and violate international law and relevant international legitimacy resolutions.

He also referenced the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice affirming the illegality of Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory and the invalidity of settlement construction and annexation measures in the occupied West Bank.

Al-Majali called on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities and to compel Israel to halt its dangerous escalation and illegal, unilateral actions in the occupied West Bank, and to ensure the fulfillment of the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights—foremost among them the establishment of an independent state on their national soil—as the only path to achieving a just and comprehensive peace.
