Haaretz: Israeli army turns Gaza outskirts into dumping ground for waste and construction debris

RAMALLAH, October 26, 2025 (WAFA) – Footage has emerged showing Israeli trucks transporting large amounts of waste and construction debris into the Gaza Strip via the Kissufim crossing, dumping them in areas already devastated by the war.

According to a report by Haaretz published on Sunday, Israeli officers have admitted that the decision to turn Gaza into a "mountain of garbage and debris" was made on the ground by field commanders.

The report adds that Israeli trucks loaded with waste and construction materials travel 200 to 300 meters inside Gaza, unloading their cargo on the sides of roads, rather than at designated disposal sites, before returning empty to Israel.

On the Israeli side, trucks are refilled with waste by bulldozers and then follow the same route back to Gaza to dump their loads again.

The report highlights the massive accumulation of construction waste left behind by the Israeli military, resulting from the construction of dozens of military bases and positions near the border. These facilities involved infrastructure work, fencing, roads, and concrete barriers.

Haaretz cited Israeli officers who revealed that field commanders had authorized private companies' trucks to enter Gaza and dispose of their loads "wherever they deem appropriate."

One soldier currently stationed in Gaza and residing in a kibbutz near the border remarked, "Mountains of garbage will remain [in Gaza] for the rest of our lives. What’s the logic in dumping thousands of tons of waste just hundreds of meters away from our homes?"

Another officer described the situation as "a disgrace, difficult to believe that the Israeli army is involved in this," adding that the dumped debris "contains large amounts of iron, irrigation pipes, and concrete blocks."

One source, who attempted to inquire with their superiors about why waste was being dumped in the Strip at non-designated locations, was reportedly told that "countries will soon enter Gaza to supervise reconstruction, and they will handle the waste management."
