RAMALLAH, September 2, 2026 (WAFA) – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi stressed the need to reach a just settlement to the Palestinian issue in accordance with international legitimacy, reaffirming Cairo’s efforts to advance the implementation of the commitments under the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
This came during President al-Sisi's remarks at an expanded meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, in Cairo on Wednesday, attended by delegations from both countries. The two leaders discussed a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern, according to a statement by Egyptian presidential spokesperson Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy.
They also affirmed their commitment to reaching a comprehensive agreement to end the war in the region and the convergence of Egyptian and Chinese views on the need to prioritize diplomatic means to achieve comprehensive and sustainable settlements to crises and conflicts. They further discussed efforts to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East.
The talks also addressed developments in the Palestinian issue, with the Egyptian President emphasizing the need for a just settlement in accordance with international law. He noted Egypt's efforts to advance the implementation of the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement and the importance of delivering sufficient aid to the Gaza Strip, particularly medical equipment and supplies.
The Egyptian President praised China's support for the rights of the Palestinian people and its position that the two-state solution is the only way to achieve a just and lasting peace for both the Palestinian and Israeli peoples and for the entire region.
For his part, the Chinese President expressed his country's appreciation for Cairo's efforts, under the leadership of the Egyptian President, to establish peace and stability in its regional environment in the Middle East and Africa. He emphasized China's keenness to enhance the existing level of coordination between the two countries in various international forums and on regional and international issues of common interest, in a way that contributes to supporting security and development and resolving conflicts peacefully.
