RAMALLAH, February 11, 2025 (WAFA) – Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa discussed during the weekly Cabinet meeting on Monday the recent diplomatic efforts, coordinated with Arab brothers, to secure more international opposition to forced displacement plans and to support the rights of the Palestinian people, reinforcing the steadfastness of citizens on their land.
The Cabinet reviewed urgent interventions in the northern West Bank, focusing on efforts to provide temporary shelter and essential supplies for citizens forcibly displaced from their homes by the ongoing Israeli aggression.
It stressed the importance of coordination between UNRWA and the Department of Refugee Affairs to provide temporary housing near displaced families' homes and affirmed the legal mandate of UNRWA and the political dimensions of the refugee issue, including the significance of refugee camps.
The PM stressed that government institutions will continue to contribute to providing relief, rebuilding infrastructure, delivering services, conducting damage assessments, and continuing efforts to repair them in coordination with various partners.
Regarding emergency interventions in the Gaza Strip, the Cabinet discussed the weekly report from the Government Emergency Operations Room. Key actions included the establishment of new shelters equipped with basic services, the hiring of approximately 700 field engineers for damage assessment and rubble management, and the launching of a temporary employment program by the Ministry of Labor.
Additionally, 21 ambulances and medical teams were provided by the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS), and shipments of medicines were sent from the Ministry of Health’s warehouses in the West Bank. The Palestinian Water Authority continues to repair main water lines, alongside other ongoing interventions.
Furthermore, the Cabinet reviewed a partnership agreement between the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Arab Islamic Reconstruction Committee for Gaza, overseen by the Ministry of Public Works and Housing. The agreement, valued at $80 million, will enhance field interventions to remove rubble, assess damages, set up new temporary shelters, and repair water networks and other essential services in coordination with the Prime Minister’s office and the Prime Minister’s Advisor for Arab and Islamic Funds.
The Cabinet also approved agreements for emergency support from the People’s Republic of China, amounting to 20 million Chinese Yuan (approximately $2.8 million).
