Hardcore Israeli minister Itamar Ben Gvir resigns over ceasefire deal

TEL AVIV, January 19, 2025 (WAFA) – Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, a far-right member of the government, resigned from his position on Sunday, along with other ministers from the Otzma Yehudit party. His resignation came after he threatened to leave the government if the ceasefire agreement for Gaza was approved.

Earlier in the morning, Israeli occupation authorities announced that the ceasefire, which was scheduled to take effect at 8:30 AM, would not be implemented until the list of female prisoners designated for release was submitted.

Despite this delay, Israeli forces resumed their airstrikes on several areas in Gaza starting at 8:30 AM, leading to the killing of at least nine Palestinians and leaving dozens more wounded with varying degrees of injuries.

Ben-Gvir's resignation marks a significant development in the ongoing political tensions surrounding the ceasefire agreement, with his far-right stance strongly opposed to any deal that could halt military operations in Gaza.
