RAMALLAH, December 7, 2024 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation forces raided a medical center in the town of Silwad, east of Ramallah, on Saturday, detaining a young Palestinian man who was receiving treatment for injuries sustained during confrontations earlier in the day.
According to local sources, the Israeli forces stormed the town’s medical center and detained Musa Farraj, a Palestinian in his twenties, despite him being in critical condition with breathing difficulties. The soldiers removed his oxygen equipment and also physically assaulted the medical staff at the facility.
Earlier in the day, confrontations broke out in Silwad, during which Israeli forces fired stun grenades and toxic gas, causing several residents to suffer from suffocation.
In response, the Ministry of Health condemned the Israeli raid on the emergency center, calling it a blatant violation of international law and agreements designed to protect healthcare facilities and workers. The Ministry emphasized that such actions undermine the safety and well-being of patients and medical personnel.
The Ministry of Health reiterated its urgent appeal to international institutions, including the International Committee of the Red Cross, to intervene immediately and halt the ongoing Israeli attacks on healthcare centers and staff. It called for immediate protection for the entire healthcare system, including all its components.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has been alerted to more than 600 attacks on healthcare facilities and workers in the West Bank, including in the health sector, since October 2023, according to the ministry.
