Israeli forces close the Container checkpoint near Bethlehem, causing a traffic jam

BETHLEHEM, December 2, 2024 (WAFA) - Israeli forces Monday evening closed the Container Israeli military checkpoint northeast of Bethlehem, causing major disruptions, according to a local source.

The source said that the Container checkpoint, located on the Wadi al-Nar road linking the southern and central West Bank, was shut down by the Israeli military. The forces fired sound bombs at vehicles, resulting in a long traffic jam and preventing residents from returning to their homes.

According to the Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in Occupied Territories, restricting movement is one of the main tools Israel employs to enforce its regime of occupation. Israel imposes restrictions on the movement of Palestinians within the West Bank, and travel between it and the Gaza Strip, into East Jerusalem, Israel, and abroad.

“These conditions result in a life of constant uncertainty for Palestinians, making it difficult to perform simple tasks and plan their lives, and obstruct the development of a stable economy,” said B’Tselem.
